O-Ring Selector Mobile App Offers Better User Experience

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has redesigned one of its most popular mobile apps in order to better meet the needs of its users. The updated O-Ring Selector app calculates O-Ring dimensions by simply entering installation specifications for the application in metric or inch, as well as recommending O-Ring sizes according to ISO 3601, so you know exactly which part you need.

The user interface has been updated for both iOS and Android and is now available in Japanese. Descriptions and promotional feature graphics have also been added for all supported languages.

Acquisition of Carolina Seal Inc. to Support Expansion into Chemical Transport Subsegment

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions signed an agreement to acquire the privately owned U.S.-based Carolina Seal Inc. The business specializes in the distribution of polymer seals such as O-Rings, hydraulic seals and specialty kitting.

The company’s largest market segment is in transportation equipment, and primarily within the fast growing sub segment for transportation of chemicals.

The business has its office and warehouse in Charlotte, North Carolina, and has annual sales of approximately SEK 50 M. This bolt-on acquisition is part of Trelleborg’s strategy to strengthen its positions in attractive market segments.

“The acquisition is a good fit and gives us the opportunity to enter the fast growing chemical transportation sub segment. The business is well-known to us and we are impressed with their engineering knowledge and the service they provide to customers,” says Claus Barsøe, President of the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions business area.

The transaction is expected to be finalized in the first quarter of 2017.

Trelleborg Unveils Rotary Shaft Seal Designed to Boost the Motorsport Industry

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has launched an innovative rotary shaft seal which provides “superior execution” and will “out-perform” other products on the market. The Turcon® Varilip® PDR rotary shaft seal has fast become the chosen product by several high profile motorsport clients who know it will maximize results and keep their teams winning.

Carefully developed to extend the boundaries imposed by elastomer radial shaft seals, the Turcon® Varilip® PDR rotary shaft seal utilizes advanced materials and design techniques to provide optimum sealing performance for motorsport applications. It is characterized by low friction stick-slip-free running, reducing temperature generation and permitting higher peripheral speeds.

It is accepted that standard elastomeric rotary shaft seals have a limited application range, which is why we know the Turcon® Varilip® PDR rotary shaft seal will out-perform other products on the market every time.”

What makes the seal truly unique is the fact it is constructed from only two parts – a precision manufactured metal body and a mechanically retained Turcon® sealing element. Unlike seals with pressed metal cases, a gasket is not required to provide sealing between the lip and casing. This is provided by the mechanical retention of the lip, improving both the chemical resistance and temperature range of the sealing system.

The option of an integrated end plate for Turcon® Varilip® PDR rotary shaft seal can also allow end users to optimize their hardware design to minimize envelope and part count.

In addition, the Turcon® Varilip® PDR rotary shaft seal is available with a hydrodynamic feature on the Turcon® sealing lip which provides a positive displacement of fluid as a result of the shaft rotation to give improved sealing in applications where the shaft only rotates in a single direction. The feature also increases the flexibility of the lip, allowing a wider contact area between the Turcon® lip and the shaft, helping to reduce shaft load and associated wear and temperature generation.

As well, like all Turcon® Varilip® PDR seals, the rotary shaft seal is capable of outstanding high and low temperature performance compared to elastomeric materials.

Unlike other PTFE lip seals, Trelleborg’s Turcon® Varilip® PDR seal is not limited in its temperature performance by the presence of an elastomer gasket. This gives it excellent temperature range capability. It also has an exceptional resistance to oil additives and biofuels, which can have an adverse effect on many elastomers. Using Turcon® shaft seals therefore allows the increased use of additives and gives a longer oil service life.
