Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has signed a contract for a new building in Stuttgart, Germany that will house the business area’s global headquarters, its German headquarters and various global support departments, as well as a significantly extended R&D area

Sealing Innovation Center

This substantial investment will see usable space for R&D increasing by 50%, to around 3,000 square meters, including a 300 square meter showroom area dedicated to the department and demonstrating all R&D capabilities. The move is intended to transform and further expand the current facilities in Stuttgart into a world class innovation center, equipped with cutting-edge technology and a state-of-the-art work environment.

Claus Barsøe, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions Business Area President, says: “Innovation is one of Trelleborg Group’s core values and within Trelleborg Sealing Solutions it is fundamental to everything we do. The innovation center in Stuttgart is being created to raise the bar in terms of sealing material and product development and will provide the ideal environment for future joint development projects with our customers.”

Carsten Stehle, General Manager of Trelleborg Sealing Solutions in Germany, says: “The new building, incorporating a ‘Work and Live Space’ concept, will offer a perfect environment for our processes and project work. This, as well as improved transparency, will speed up and facilitate easy internal and external communications, allowing us to spend more time on partnerships with customers and suppliers. In addition, according to our Corporate Social Responsibility guidelines, the building will exceed the latest environmental standards.”

The Trelleborg Sealing Solutions R&D facility is part of the business area’s global R&D network that includes the R&D facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana in the U.S., which has also been recently expanded. The new building will be close to the current headquarters in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. Trelleborg Sealing Solutions expects the move to be completed by mid-2018.

Trelleborg Unveils Dedicated Swivel Stack Seal Inspection Facility

Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has opened a dedicated climate-controlled swivel stack seal inspection facility for the validation of bespoke seals.

FPSO seals

The global facility is based in Barendrecht, in the Netherlands, and has been unveiled in a move to help ensure Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) operators achieve the highest possible standards in seal quality.

Seals and Service
The facility provides a temperature-controlled environment to avoid fluctuations in the dimensions of the seals caused by temperature changes, with specialist storage racks allowing the seals to be acclimatized prior to inspection.

A bespoke inspection table has been installed, on which seals up to 3000mm can be measured with special lighting to aid visual inspection.

Expert inspection
Trelleborg’s FPSO Focus Group, who are based on site, is made up of a team of experts trained to inspect the specialist seals.

Henk-Willem Sanders, Technical Manager Oil & Gas and FPSO Focus Group leader at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, said: “Oilfield operators need to be confident about their equipment – if a seal fails during an operation this can lead to lost production revenues amounting to millions of dollars.

Quality and excellence
“The quality of seals for our customers is of the upmost importance and we are continually striving for excellence, which is why we have launched this dedicated seal inspection and validation facility.

“Typical FPSO seals are from 100mm up to 3000mm in large cross sections. The controlled environment in combination with the fact that large diameter seals can be inspected, gives our customers unrivalled reassurance when selecting a seal partner.”

Subsea Expo 2016
Trelleborg Sealing Solutions will be exhibiting at Subsea Expo 2016, which takes place at Aberdeen AECC from February 3 to 5, on stand 52.
