Learn How Trelleborg Supports Companies at Hannover Messe

Trelleborg is a world leader in engineered polymer solutions and polymer engineering is central to many essential products that seal, damp and protect in critical applications from outer space to the seabed. Trelleborg’s focus on accelerating customers’ performance through innovations, many of which are unique, is supporting manufacturers into the next industrial revolution.

Trelleborg HannoverPatrik Romberg, Senior Vice President Corporate Communications, Trelleborg Group, says: “Polymer solutions are fundamental and critical components in virtually all equipment and within practically every manufacturing process. Our expertise, presence and innovation influence the whole supply chain, making product development, production and delivery more rapid and effective. The experience that we have in one industry can facilitate the acceleration of innovation in another industry. For example, advances in aerospace sealing technology have been replicated to make subsea valves work more effectively.

The next industrial revolution
“Supporting customers into the next industrial revolution involves deep integration between us and them at all levels of the supply chain, from technical proposals, R&D to design for manufacturing and advanced delivery. It’s an enhanced way of thinking, looking at the total solution rather than its parts with an eye not just on our product, but related products too, such as the connections on hoses. It often involves the development of custom parts, like custom made multigates for electrical applications. Our expertise means that we can help our customers deliver better solutions to their users, more quickly and in a sustainable way.”

Representing two Trelleborg business areas over three stands and with a PromoCube within the central area of the fair, Trelleborg will present a number of its polymer solutions that fulfill varied industrial requirements. The World of Trelleborg, an interactive journey through a selection of Trelleborg’s advanced solutions, will be available to explore at the PromoCube and on all Trelleborg stands.

Trelleborg Announces Two New AutoHubs for India and China

The latest additions to the line-up adopt global architecture already tried and tested in the USA, Europe, and Brazil.

Automotive HubAs part of the current expansion strategy being pursued by Trelleborg Sealing Solutions, the business area is establishing two new Automotive Hubs in China and India. The plan is for both AutoHubs to be fully operational within the course of this year. These new organizations are being set up according to the proven architecture found in the hubs already working in Brazil, the U.S. and Europe.

Uniform architecture
This uniform architecture means that, firstly, each AutoHub conforms to the same personnel structure worldwide, comprising account managers, sales engineers, and customer service staff. One interesting fact worthy of mention here is that there is no single key account manager; instead, all account managers are responsible for all the various clients and subsequent tasks.

“This is one of the reasons why we carefully choose our Automotive Hub employees and make sure they feel appreciated,” explains Jochen Sanguinette, Director Global Marketing Automotive at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions. To name but one example: new colleagues are assigned a member of staff who accompanies them throughout their initial period at the company. They are also introduced to every department, and not just the AutoHub, so that they learn how the entire operation works. “It’s important that our employees have the knowledge and freedom to make decisions for themselves,” comments Sanguinette.

Adapted to the region and market
The AutoHubs and their employees all share the same tried-and-tested targets as those outlined for the original Automotive Hub, as specified by headquarters for the AutoHubs in Stuttgart, Germany. However, Jochen Sanguinette emphasizes that these goals are naturally adapted according to the relevant region and market. Nonetheless, each hub has to adhere strictly to its own roadmap, which clearly stipulates the range of products and services on offer, and even covers such items as approved suppliers.

Furthermore, the AutoHubs are all able to benefit from central support in such areas as finance, project management, use of web platforms, data analysis, and combined marketing activities. For example, the Automotive Roadshows that have been successfully running in Europe for the past year will be extended to the U.S. in 2015, and are planned for the Asia Pacific region at a later date. Alongside a special film to accompany the innovative nature of the roadshow, films are also being produced on automotive topics of interest, such as Rubore® and Turcon® Roto L.

Trelleborg Supplies Seals For The Arburg Machines It uses In Its Own Facilities

Seals from Trelleborg must stand up to millions of cycles in Arburg injection molding machines. That’s one reason why Trelleborg’s production facilities are also home to a large number of Arburg machines.

A high-performance machine such as the hybrid all-rounders from the Hidrive series operating in the packaging industry might well complete 7.3 million production cycles a year. Needing to demonstrate the highest possible performance under these conditions, one of these high-tech machines might contain as many as 20 Trelleborg seals and guide strips.Arburg Injection Molding Machine

“We are always on the lookout for seals with as little friction as possible, that can be installed under any circumstances all over the world,” Krötz says. Hence the decision to switch hydraulic oils, from T46 to T29, after it became clear that micro scratches might appear on the piston rod if zinc-free hydraulic oils were used.

Joint testing in production
Tests are currently being carried out with the new high performance Turcon® M12 sealing material. To do this, Arburg machines that are in production at the Trelleborg Sealing Solutions facility at Stein am Rhein, Switzerland, are equipped with seals in the new material.

“In this way we carry out our testing together, under real production conditions,” explains Theodor Mack, a sales representative at Trelleborg Sealing Solutions. At Trelleborg’s Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) competence center in Stein am Rhein, Arburg’s green-and-yellow injection molding machines dominate the central production hall. Wherever you look, the characteristic shudder of the hydraulic hoses and movement of the handling units indicate that production is under way.

Full confidence in automated processes
“Our production is fully automated, and we have full confidence in the high efficiency of the Arburg machines,” says Jakob Bleiker, Technical Director of the Stein am Rhein facility.

Seals made by Trelleborg are also component parts for Arburg’s new freeformer, which heralded a new era in plastics processing when it was presented at the K 2013 trade fair, the international trade fair for plastics and rubber. It is likely that it won’t be long before the first of this newest generation of machines takes pride of place in a Trelleborg facility.

Arburg GmbH, based in Germany’s Black Forest, is a leading producer of injection molding machines for plastic processing. Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has high confidence in Arburg’s injection molding machines, with more than a hundred Arburg machines installed in 24 production facilities worldwide. Sealing systems that contain Trelleborg’s own seals contribute to long machine life.

Meeting high standards
“The people at Trelleborg have always been committed to providing us with sealing solutions that meet the high standards demanded by our machines,” says Martin Krötz, head of Arburg’s testing department. All new seals undergo thorough testing by the manufacturer before they are built into the injection molding machines.

Arburg GmbH

The German machine builder Arburg is a global leader in the production of injection molding machines with locking forces of between 125 and 5,000 kilo newtons for plastic processing. Other product lines include robot systems, turnkey solutions tailored to the needs of both individuals and industries, and other peripheral solutions. Arburg has branches in 32 locations in 24 countries and business partners in more than 50 countries. Production is carried out exclusively at the German headquarters in Loßburg.

Arburg Injection Molding Machines in SituThe revolutionary Freeformer plastic injection machine

Arburg’s world premiere of the freeformer moves an unprecedented success story in the field of injection molding machines into a new, revolutionary process of additive manufacturing. The unique freeformer produces fully functional plastic parts using a new additive manufacturing technique – ARBURG Plastic Freeforming (AKF) – from 3D CAD files, standard granulates and without a mold. It therefore offers boundless freedom for the efficient production of individual parts and small-volume batches. Theodor Mack is excited “that our seals are involved in a worldwide sensation as it hits the market.” Trelleborg’s Turcon® Roto Glyd Ring® and Turcon® Roto Glyd Ring® D120 are used as internal seals while a Turcon® Roto Glyd Ring® seals externally.
